This is also our core belief that happiness doesn\u2019t always need to be a big event.<\/p>

The heat in chilli comes from capsaicin<\/strong>, a compound that activates receptors called TRPV1. These receptors help your body detect potentially painful heat.<\/p>

Capsaicin gives them something of a false alarm: your mouth feels hot even though the sauce hasn\u2019t actually raised its temperature.<\/p>

Your body can respond by engaging its own pain-relief systems, including endorphins<\/strong>. For some chilli lovers, that helps explain the satisfying glow after a fiery mouthful.<\/p>
